Juan Giraldo is an artist whose passion for color, texture, and abstraction has been a constant in his life since he was a child. With art materials always within reach, Juan could develop his dreams and bring them to life.
Juan’s artistic journey has been one of self-discovery, which has taken him through periods of experimentation, questioning, and reorientation. He studied Visual Arts with an emphasis on Plastic Arts at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, where he gained the skills and knowledge to express his rebellious spirit and challenge the structures of society.
Authenticity and sincerity are at the core of Juan’s work, which takes many expression forms: painting, poetry, and music. His ability to tell stories through his art has allowed him to become a true storyteller.
But Juan’s art is not just a form of self-expression. He also has a deep and urgent need to express humanity’s need to reconcile with the planet Earth. For Juan, we must understand that we are part of a system, and that system is part of other systems. The imbalance in some parts of the system can weaken the whole, and even lead to destruction.
Since 2015, he has been working on a series of paintings featuring mystical creatures and landscapes that are inspired by some personal experiences, stories of native people, and his creativity as an artist. This project is called “Los Malhechos,” and it aims to promote a green revolution that is in harmony with ourselves and the world around us.
He uses acrylic paint on canvas, and also experiments with unconventional materials. He also loves working on large formats and mural walls for interior or exterior spaces, which he can create on request.
Malhecho is a poetic expression of Juan’s desire to save the planet through art. The focus is on the mysticism of the mountains, their colors, their textures, and their pigments. Juan sees Malhecho as a mythical expression of the urgency to protect the planet, a call to action that is both artistic and practical.
Juan’s art is not just beautiful; it is also meaningful. It reflects his values, his passions, and his desire to make the world a better place.
