Perhaps for many, the idea that people could believe in a myth in the current era is illusory, especially when the values are very different from those held by the communities that created and believed in ancient myths. However, it seems to me that this is not so much an obstacle to creating a contemporary myth as it is an indication of the need to update mythical thinking and adapt it to the beliefs of the times we live in. 

 Today, practices like human sacrifice are unacceptable to most of us because they follow ways of understanding the world that we do not share. Therefore, the challenge lies in creating a mythical narrative that is in harmony with the way people think and feel in the 21st century. To achieve this goal, it is necessary within the mythological narrative to conceive of the human being as a creature with individuality and free will. José Carlos Mariátegui (2007), using the Incas as an example, states that in several ancient societies, the life of one or more individuals was considered less important than the maintenance of order, and thus, it did not hold the same value that we assign to it. The change came with the arrival of religions like Christianity, where the fundamental aspect is each individual’s relationship with God, not collective matters. 

 In the myth of the Malhechos, I propose the unity of humanity in a common cause, but this does not imply nullifying individual capacities and thoughts. Rather, it means putting our particular abilities and efforts at the service of the care and restoration of the world in which we live. Toga gave us free will and the ability to reason so that we can create solutions that allow us to continue living beyond the current cycle. This fundamental point encapsulates the update of mythical thinking that I propose, although others may emerge in the future.
